To encourage our students to take an active role in their learning process and to help make learning fun, FEV Tutor introduced “My Journey” to our Online Tutoring portal this fall. Students are rewarded with points for positive behaviors, such as taking ownership of their learning, mastering new concepts, participation, and more. As students accumulate points, they earn Micro-Badges that unlock new levels on their game-board to compete with their classmates and earn privileges to customize their avatar and tutoring experience. In this post, we will examine how FEV's My Journey helps students to become self-advocates.
Did you know that FEV Tutor has an ongoing Rewards Program? We understand how valuable classroom time is and we hold ourselves accountable for making the most of students' time. To help everyone stay on track and recognize students and teachers for putting in the time necessary to make an impact on student achievement, we've created our own Rewards Program.
At the end of each school year, FEV Tutor ran a testimonial contest open to all teachers and administrators at our partner school sites. We believe it’s important to not only know how our students feel about our services but also the educators implementing tutoring in their classroom. We were happy to hear such positive reviews, but don't take our word for it, take a look at some of our favorite submissions below.
In May, FEV Tutor was pleased to travel down to Johns Hopkins School of Education to participate in the Maryland Assistive Technology Network (MATN) Spring Institute! The conference was very well attended with educators from across the state of Maryland and Delaware as well.
Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD), a diverse Title I district located in the San Bernardino-Riverside Metropolitan Area of California, historically struggled in Math. With the changing rigor of California Common Core State Standards, students throughout the district were falling further behind. Over three quarters of students district-wide were scoring below proficiency on the California Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) assessment. District administrators knew they had to address Math achievement head-on. They would need to think outside of the box to get students additional supports to keep them on track to fulfill California A-G Requirements and place them on a College and Career Ready path.
Our empirical data shows that our most successful tutoring programs, that drive the largest student achievement gains, are those in which our tutors are able to closely connect 1:1 instruction to the student's core classroom. There are several ways to align 1:1 tutoring with core instructional strategies, but the most direct and effective method is to collect existing district/school benchmark assessment data. In fact, FEV Tutor recently formed a partnership with NWEA to make data sharing even easier for our partner school and districts.
FEV Tutor is pleased to announce our partnership with NWEA, the leading not-for profit provider of cutting-edge assessment solutions. We have partnered to help school districts use MAP Growth assessment results to personalize instruction and intervention for each student through 1:1, live online tutoring solutions.
In November FEV Tutor was pleased to present at the EdTechTeacher Summit with Chris Shearer, Principal of Holcomb Bridge Middle School (HBMS) of Fulton County Schools. Principal Shearer and FEV's Director of Academics, Daniel Hebert, lead a session titled: Personalized Learning - A Story About Collaboration and Changing Outcomes for Students. As a part of the presentation, FEV Tutor premiered our latest Success Story video which showcases the impact FEV's tutoring had on HBMS struggling Math students and includes feedback from Holcomb Bridge administrators, teachers, and students. We've included the video in the blog post below!
As an approved tutoring provider for Dallas Independent School District, FEV Tutor partnered with Thomas Jefferson High School, Thomas Jefferson Collegiate Academy, Pinkson Collegiate Academy, and Dr. Emmett J. Conrad Global Collegiate Academy to deliver online tutoring to help Dallas ISD students to prepare for STAAR End of Course (EOC) Assessments and the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment.
As a district-approved virtual tutoring provider at Fulton County Schools (FCS), FEV Tutor has partnered with several FCS Elementary and Middle Schools in the Greater Atlanta area to deliver highly-targeted, live, 1-to-1 Math and ELA Tutoring support. Each tutoring program has been planned collaboratively with school leadership and customized based on the needs of individual school sites. Our classroom-connected tutoring services have been delivered during the school day, after-school, and at-home on nights and weekends to help students to bridge skill-gaps, prepare for the Georgia Milestones assessment, support remediation, and as an in-school suspension support service for FCS students.
In this success story we are profiling the Math student achievement gains attained by 8th grade students at Holcomb Bridge Middle School who participated in an intensive Math skill-building program ahead of the Georgia Milestones Exam. We are pleased to say that after one semester of FEV's tutoring services 70% of participating students went on to exceed their projected gains on the Georgia Milestones Math Assessment. On their seasonal STAR assessments, the average Holcomb Bridge FEV tutor participant grew from the 61st nationwide percentile to the 72nd percentile from Fall to Spring.
