Due to the spread of COVID-19, we understand that for schools/district to make sure virtual learning tools and technology available for students has been challenging. Not all students and families have access to the technology needed for distance learning (laptops/desktops/WiFi). At FEV Tutor, we believe in providing equitable access to all learners alike to continue accelerating academic growth. We have developed two remote learning apps available on the iPad and iPhone.

Here at FEV Tutor, we are truly inspired by K-12 School & Districts around the country and their ability to adapt, innovate, and rapidly transition to Remote & Distance Learning during the current national crisis. We recognize the circumstances have been constantly evolving and new research from NWEA’s Collaborative for Student Growth Research Center suggests that students heading back to school next fall will be impacted by an academic skill loss (COVID-19 slide) that will require planning strategies to bridge these skill gaps.

As school shutdowns persist, teachers are striving to find a balance between supporting their students virtually, planning lessons while navigating new technologies, and managing their own families and personal lives. Now schools have had some time to transition their students and teachers to remote learning, but that brings a new element to structuring the classroom and keeping students engaged. A teacher's schedule is hectic under normal circumstances, and while we believe educators are superheroes, it's a challenging time for everyone.

Live 1:1 At-Home Instruction During COVID-19 Closures
Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) is an inner-city district with nearly 100% of students on free/reduced lunch, and a high number of homeless/transient students. The district is continually working to provide quality education while handling various external factors, most recently being school closures. To keep their students academically engaged, many BCPS Schools are incorporating Live 1:1 Online Tutoring into their remote learning plans.

As schools and districts remain closed, remote learning platforms have become a necessity for teachers and students affected by COVID-19. We are finding many traditional brick and mortar schools are exploring different types of distance learning resources, including Google Classroom. We understand that these are unprecedented times, and to support teachers, FEV Tutor can align with teachers' content by connecting to their Google Classroom account.
The classroom looks much different from what many of us remember from our youth; computer use in school was a privilege and primarily took place in the form of Oregon Trail or keyboarding class. The mindset has changed from technology being a reward to that of a necessary, everyday learning tool.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) has become somewhat of a buzzword in education today, but it can be hard to know what exactly the term means. According to CASEL, "Social and emotional learning is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions." In schools, this "whole-child" approach to teaching and learning is meant to empower students in the classroom and further on into adulthood.
With the current health concerns across the nation, many schools/districts face needing to make a quick transition to support students academically in a virtual setting. We understand choosing a program to get your students up and running while immediately meeting their academic needs is a tough decision. While students may be at home for an extended period of time, FEV Tutor wants you to know that we are here to help. For the past ten years, we have been engaging families and students from their homes and in other non-traditional education settings on a national level.
